Master& Margarita

Saint Petersburg · 2021

I worked as the set photographer for this scene in Saint Petersburg and also created an independent backstage reportage from the film set.

Filmed under the working title Woland, the adaptation connects Bulgakov’s novel with elements of the writer’s life. My photographs follow August Diehl as Woland between takes, together with the crew, period cars, monumental architecture and the practical machinery of cinema. The reportage observes how the illusion was assembled: waiting, direction, repetition and the brief quiet between scenes.
